One of the first things you should notice about 50 cent series 591 military payment certificates is that they are the same size as the other three fractional denominations. The United States decided to issue paper money instead of coins to use on military bases overseas. It was a cost saving measure as well as a strategic move. The reality is that there are no fractional MPCs that are really rare by any stretch of the imagination. It was very easy to save or forget to redeem these on conversation days. Series 591 50 cent MPCs came home as souvenirs by the thousands. Higher grade examples can be at least somewhat scarce, but none of these are ever expensive.
